A while back, 4 days out of 5 I would get back from work, have dinner and the next thing I would do would be to watch the Geek Brief podcast. It was required viewing, it was as simple as that!
Sadly, a lot of things changed (all for the worse) and I didn’t like what it had become, so I un-subscribed.
Fast forward to today and we have Gadget Report TV, the real successor to Geek Brief.
Gadget Report ‘feels’ like the Geek Brief podcasts of old and of course this is helped by the fact that is hosted by Neal Campbell, who was so closely involved with Geek Brief.
It was the other half of the Geek Brief team, Cali Lewis, left that things when all wrong. Okay since she and Neal were married and have now divorced, things were going wrong before, but I’m not going to say anything more about that, these are real people I’m writing about here…
So it was when she left and founded a new podcast, Geek Beat TV things when wrong. I followed her with my iTunes subscription, as I have done with Neal’s new podcast. I’ve said it before, but the Geek Brief podcasts really did feel like friends talking to you, it wasn’t just another podcast (at the time I was probably subscribed to 10 podcasts!) It felt different.
The Geek Beat podcast just didn’t feel like that, it was sort of colder. I only followed it a short while. Maybe it was the whole way that Geek Brief ended and the way Cali…no I said I wasn’t going to go there, which left a bitter taste.
Anyway Gadget Report, yes, it feels almost the like Geek Brief. It’s still not quite there, but that might be because I’m not at that same point in my life any more or maybe because it doesn’t have a stunning looking lady presenting it (sorry Neal!). Or maybe, it’s just that is early days yet. I do hope it’s this last one!
So yes I’ve subscribed and await eagerly the next download of the real successor to Geek Brief, The Gadget Report!
