The panel to the right pretty much sums me up!
There really isn’t to much to add to it, I’m not a complicated person. I am what you might call a Geek, I’ve have always been in to science, technology and science fiction and this was long before the internet really existed as we know it. Yes I come that generation that didn’t grow up with the internet, nor where we so set in our ways that the new fangled internet thing wasn’t going to make any difference to us (apologies if you are a ‘silver surfer’ reading this). I knew the internet when you had to worry about getting your SLIP script right to connect and when netscape navigator was the only browser to have.
Yes, as far as the internet is concerned, I’m an ‘old timer’.
So when the internet came along it was natural for me to follow the path of the Geek!
I’ve followed that route in my working life too. I started working in an electronics shop, but after that first job, I have always worked in IT, mostly in support, but I have ventured in to the territory of development for a while as well. By this point I’m probably stuck in IT for life, but I don’t think this is a bad thing! I love the work I do!
The only thing that might get me out of IT and maybe out of the 9 to 5 ‘rat race’ (but I work 9:30 to 6!) would be achieving my almost life long dream of becoming an author. I’m currently working along a 5 year plan towards this aim of being able to live of my writing. At this point I am a very long way off this dream, but you have to have dreams otherwise what is life worth living for?
Again this dream of writing fiction for a living pre dates the internet and me even having a computer! My very first real story was going to be some sort of time travel epic, similar in feel to HG Well’s ‘The Time Machine’. I say was, because I never finished it! I don’t have anything beyond memories of this story, which was all writing with these odd things called pen and paper…how primitive!
Well I seem to have bumbled on long enough now, go have a look at some of my pages or the pages I’ve worked on or maybe just look at what I’m doing now.
