Being an ‘IT Guy’ and self confessed geek, it was natural for me to fiddle with web sites. As a result I now have 5 of my own sites, also since I worked on web sites of the companies I’ve worked for, I started to get a bit of a reputation for ‘designing’ web sites
I ‘designing’ (in quotes), because I don’t see my self as a designer. I’m not really skilled at that, what I can however do is see a well designed template and match it will a site. I call myself a web engineer.
Anyway, some friends that wanted some help with there websites, asked me for help and…well things snowballed and starting in late 2008 I was managing 1 web site for a friend and in 2009 I added another. 2010 looks like it could be adding another 2 to this total!
Pegasus Hawking
A family friends hawking business web site had not been updated for at least a year when I was asked if I could help with it. Looking at the web site, I could see that it was stuck firmly in the days of html 2.0, so I said yes. This was a site that clearly needed some work. I knew a template which fitted the site’s content perfectly and so a few months later, the site was re-lunched with lots of new content and has been steadily expanding since then.
Stockwood Free Church
A friend, who works for the church had registered the domain name years ago. It had however been ‘parked’ at a Microsoft site builder page due to the lack of content. The church then became more interested in getting a web presence, so I was asked if I could help. No problem! However since various members of the church needed to be able to put content up them selves, I needed a proper CMS in place. WordPress to the rescue!
Now all I need to do is to keep an eye on things, handle updates etc and only get involved in a tech support capacity.
